A Wellington Business With Over 125 Years of Experience
Charles William Martin opened his doors on Lower Tory Street, Wellington, on the 5th of November 1900. Over the century that followed, C W Martin Ltd worked through plumbing, sheetmetal and home heating, and along the way built something you can’t buy: a working memory of many grates, burners and heaters installed in a New Zealand home.
Today the business is run by Charles’s grandson, Peter Martin, as The Grate Place, a specialist in fire grates and replacement parts for wood burning and multifuel appliances, old and new. When you describe a part to Peter, you’re drawing on 125 years of accumulated pattern knowledge.
